Chapter - 2

I remember it was one Sunday morning in the month of August. I was working out at the gym in my apartment. A couple of friends greeted me and then a few friends congratulated me on receiving the best playback singer award in Tollywood the previous night. I thanked each one of them and then headed towards my flat. I reached the lift and got into it. I pressed 10th Floor button. As I reached 8th floor, a neighbour got into the lift and the moment he saw me, he too started congratulating me. I said thanks to him and once I reached 10th floor, I bid a bye to him and hurried to my flat.

The moment I entered my flat, I rushed into the rest room and once I was relieved, I came out and sat in the living room. I grabbed the newspaper and asked my mom, Ramya for a cup of coffee. She got me coffee and said, “Listen Abhay, we have been getting phone calls since morning from all our family and friends, who have been wanting to congratulate you on receiving such a prestigious award. We are really proud of you my son”. I smiled at her. My sister, Shruti came out of her bed room and said “Hey Bro… good morning”. I greeted her back. My mom started scolding her for waking up that late. “Mom….Chill, you know right we had been to the function last night. So, I got up late” said Shruti. Shruti, it was not just you who had been to the function. Look at Abhay, he too was with you. Didn’t he wake up on time? See he never misses even his workouts” said mom. Yes, we know your son is really great. So, now please stop bragging about him and get me a cup of coffee, said Shruti.

Shruti, you better get one for yourself, said mom. Shruti went into the kitchen. My father, Shiv Shankar came back from his morning walk. He joined us in the living room. As Shruti heard dad’s voice, she came up with two cups of coffee and offered one for dad and she slowly slipped in sipping hers.

What’s next Abhay…? Dad asked. What you pointing at Dad…? Can you please be more precise? I think you should at least now consider getting married, said dad. Oh Dad!!! Not again…. I am just 26. Please, let me have some good time before getting into any kind of commitments. Fine Abhay, but please ensure you don’t make it too long, said Dad. I smiled. That’s when my naughty sister intervened and said, Dad… how mean you are! I have been telling you that am very much ready to get married, though I am studying 1st year engineering, but you aren’t considering at it. Rather forcing Abhay to get married. I am very much disappointed!!! She tried to pull his legs. We all started laughing at her and soon headed into our respective works.
